Hey Alexa, take me to Hilltop Ford in Richmond, California.' — Ford Unveils Latest Alexa Built-in Capabilities

Ever felt like you had to sound like a robot to communicate to Alexa? Well, you're not alone. Alexa is a robot after all, so it's only natural that you talk to it like one.

But, no longer.

Alexa will now execute commands based on your natural way of speaking. Ford unveiled Alexa Built-in's enhanced Car Control capabilities to the world for the first time at the New York International Auto Show this month.

Enhanced Car Control allows you to tailor Alexa to the way you speak and to incorporate words that you like to use everyday. For example, if you're on Highway 880 and say, "Alexa, find an In-and-Out for me," Alexa will ask you for your preference. It might say: "There is one on Hegenberger and one in Alameda?"

What's more, you can teach Alexa phrases and idioms that come naturally to you. You could say: "Alexa, either is fine. Just get me over there in a jiffy" or "Alexa, either one is fine. I just don't want to get stuck in traffic." In this case, Alexa will recognize your use of the words "jiffy" and "stuck" and ask for clarification on their meaning.

This feature bolsters Ford and Lincoln's expansive deployment of Alexa Built-in and the hands-free experience that it enables. Ford and Lincoln will offer Alexa features as a complimentary service for up to three years with the 2022 F-150, Bronco, Mustang Mach-E, Edge, newly launched Expedition, Nautilus and newly launched Navigator. The service will soon be offered with the 2022 F-150 Lightning™ as well. Enhanced Car Control functionality will be bundled with Alexa when available.

You can access the benefits of Amazon's world-class voice AI and intelligent features from both inside and outside your vehicle as well. Combined with the FordPass Alexa skill, which you can continue to use to control vehicle functions such as start/stop engine, lock and unlock doors, check vehicle range or tire pressure all from the comfort of your home, Ford is bringing smart homes and connected vehicles closer together.

Ford was the first to bring Alexa to vehicles in 2017 in response to nearly 80 percent of American consumers who want compatibility between the voice service in their car and at home, according to JD Power.
