The All-New 2022 Ford Maverick

You've heard the hype surrounding the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco and have been eagerly awaiting its overdue arrival, but does it live up to its namesake? In a word, yes. Car and Driver recently got their hands on an exclusive 2021 Ford Bronco First Edition and put it to a pretty gnarly test. Flying over dunes, roaring down rocky paths, and maxing out, well, everything, these professional testers came away suitably impressed. While the Bronco First Edition was limited to just 7,000, which are already spoken for (unless you have $150,000 lying around to buy one on eBay), there are five other trim levels of the new Bronco from which to choose. As the first new Broncos begin to arrive at dealerships, revisit just what makes the return of the Bronco so exciting.

The new 2021 Ford Bronco successfully honors the retro look of the original Bronco without looking out of date, marrying modern design and technology to create the ultimate off-road machine. For the first time, the Bronco offers a four-door option in addition to the standard two doors. But don't buy the four-door to fit more people - they do get 0.6 more inches of legroom in the four-door, but both versions can fit a 6 foot 5 passenger quite comfortably, according to Car and Driver. The real reason to go for the four-door Bronco is its 50 percent more cargo room thanks to the 15.7 inches added to the wheelbase.

The 2021 Bronco, affectionately dubbed the Big Bronco, features standard 4x4, a 300 horsepower 2.3-L EcoBoost® engine with a 7-speed manual (two-door) or 10-speed automatic (four-door) and 16-inch Bright Polished Silver wheels that can also accommodate the optional 35-inch all-terrain tires. The Bronco seats four in the two-door or five in the four-door, with the base model starting under $30k!

The five upgrade trims are Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands and Wildtrak. The sold-out Bronco First Edition features the best of everything. Outer Banks interior, Wildtrak exterior and the maximum off-road capability of Badlands.

The much-talked-about Sasquatch package adds those 35-inch all-terrain tires to 17-inch black-painted wheels, Bilstein™ shock absorbers, high-clearance fender flares and suspension, and electronic-locking front and rear axles. The Sasquatch package comes standard with the Bronco Wildtrak and First Edition or can be added to any trim.

The new Ford Bronco offers Best-in-Class* water fording, Best-in-Class* ground clearance, Best-in-Class* 29.00 degree break-over angle** and up to seven G.O.A.T. drive modes - Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Sand, Rock Crawl, Mud/Ruts, Baja - with the Ford Terrain Management system. Choose from the 300 horsepower 2.3L EcoBoost® engine or an available 2.7L EcoBoost® with 330-hp and 415 lb-ft of torque with the 7-speed Getrag manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
